Osun Labour Leaders Stand Firm with NULGE Workers

The Joint Labour Movement in Osun State comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), has reaffirmed its solidarity with members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State Chapter, for their steadfastness in the ongoing struggle for genuine local government autonomy.

In a strongly worded statement jointly signed by Comrade (Dr.) Christopher A. Arapasopo, Chairperson of NLC; Comrade ‘Bimbo Fasasi, Chairman of TUC; and Comrade Lekan Adediran, Chairman of JNC, the movement commended NULGE members for their resilience in resisting attempts by “dishonest characters” to lure them back to work against the directive of the union.

The Joint Labour Movement described those spreading false information about work resumption as “a bunch of slaves to their bitter paymasters,” urging workers to remain resolute and united in the face of political manipulation.

“We applaud your courage as you continue to protect workers’ rights and uphold the rule of law as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read. “Your commitment to the cause of true local government autonomy will go down in history as a defining moment for democracy, accountability, and grassroots development in Osun State.”

The union leaders further warned against “political shenanigans designed to wreak havoc and mayhem on the good, peaceful and law-abiding workers of Osun State,” reaffirming their unwavering commitment to defending democracy, economic justice, and social progress.

They emphasized that the struggle for local government autonomy transcends partisan interests and is rooted in the broader fight for fairness, equity, and responsible governance.

“When the union’s inspiration runs through the workers’ blood, there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun for the union makes us strong,” the leaders declared.

The Joint Labour Movement concluded by reaffirming its solidarity and readiness to defend democracy, economic justice, and social progress in Osun State and beyond.
